Issey Miyake’s Watches
His recent death at 84 came unexpectedly, Issey Miyake, was a Japanese Legend who etched his position in Japan's modern history. Issye’s contribution to the fashion industry brought a new wave to sustainable, technology-driven clothing following the Japanese philosophy of simplicity and made to fit all kinds of body shapes and colors that defined Japanese Fashion as unique from the fashion of the West world. While his remarkable breakthrough in pleats pattern made many conversational pieces, his unheralded contribution to the watch industry is equally fascinating which can be seen in series of watch like The O, Hu, Glass watch and several others.

I followed his work because of his watches. Knowing his roots, I am intrigued by his relationship between his ideas and his materials. He was famously known for his pleats, followed by expanding in various other lifestyle products. His designs carried that simplicity, elegance and balance which even Steve Jobs couldn’t ignore. The famously known turtle neck, which Steve Jobs’s uniform, was designed by Miyake. His “pleats please” series which brought the attention from the work is my personal favorite fashion line as well. its my dream to wear it someday and give my body an opportunity to feel the “feel” of the pleats. The maestro in making a permanent pleat on several fabrics, revolutionized this process before cutting and sewing. I wonder how would it work if the same treatment was given on metals for example rain shade on buildings.
Anyway, more of his work below and yes, I would be trying to see if i can create something inspired by his “pleats”.
